What do I wear?
Connection will outshine your clothes.
Just the word "Photos" can bring up anxiety of picking out perfectly coordinated outfits but throw all the concern away because your session is about CONNECTION, not perfection!
When I do my job well to focus on the relationship & unique love of your family, NOBODY will care or even notice what you are wearing.
Sure, complementary colors/patterns/textures go a long way but hear me out
WHAT YOU WEAR IS NOT YOUR STORY
The family legacy we package up in photos & film are timeless, clothes are not, so let's focus on the moments instead of the exterior dressings.
Wear clothes you can move in.
The clothes you wear should be comfortable enough for you to move freely in, and they should make you feel good when you wear them.
Maybe you're snuggled up in PJs for a morning session or maybe you want to dress up a bit, it doesn't matter much!
WEAR WHAT YOU CAN RUN & PLAY IN!
Mama, pick what you feel beautiful in. Keep the heels in the closet & be ready to have fun!
Kids, don't wear the scratchy shirt & expect to get a little dirty (because it happens each day!).
Dad, feel free to keep it simple, comfy & neutral.
Your real is beautiful.
What is your family's style?
Is it messy hair & well loved clothes from a dress up box? Or do you love to style your family?
EITHER WAY, I'M CHEERING YOU ON!
This isn't a session to try to fit into someone else's box, you are encouraged to fully embrace the uniqueness!
If the kids run shirt-free through the yard, puts on a tutu for spinning, straps on a cape for flying through the kitchen or galoshes on a sunny day,
EMBRACE IT!

Ok ok so I've told you to be yourself & wear whatever you want, and I do mean it, BUT here are some hard & fast rules for video!
NO PINSTRIPES OR OTHER TINY PATTERNS
Very small patterns do a crazy dance on a screen & there is no way to edit it out. It's called moiré effect & is a filmmaker's nightmare.
NO NEON COLORS
My kids like super bright colors, yours probably do too, but unless you want your face to reflect green, leave the bright colors for another day!
I REPEAT NO TINY PATTERNS & NO NEON, GOT IT? Great!
TOP TIPS
Use these as guidelines but lean strongly on the previous pages to guide you.
Quiet solid colors & subtle patterns shoot best!
Feel free to add one bold pattern in the mix.
Textures & layer & accessories add depth, interest & personality.
Natural fibers like linen & cotton photography beautifully!
In terms of colors to wear, choose colors from a color palette and mix it up so that no one is wearing the same color. One popular palette to choose from would be neutral, earthy tones that won't show dirt or stains as easily (meaning you can relax more about that during the session!).
To keep the imagery timeless, keep the cartoon characters & number of words/brands on clothing to a minimum.
